NFL Roundup: Los Angeles Rams start to shine, Super Bowl Champion Eagles falter

Here are the most important things we learned about the NFL in Week 3.

1. First and foremost, there is no such thing as the Houston Texans and this week, they are as good as toast. Having lost quarterback Deshaun Watson to a knee injury on Friday, the Houston Texans lose their very first game of the season in ugly fashion, falling to the Washington Redskins by a score of 38-34. And while Washington has pretty much been a disaster in the last two years, (they went 4-12 in 2016 and started 0-3 this year), the Texans were supposed to be the best team in the AFC. They’re now 0-2, and their defense is a dumpster fire. Team owner Bob McNair could be suspended after saying he couldn’t “point to one win that’s attributable to players kneeling or raising a fist”. McNair was later asked to apologize by President Trump, who said, “[McNair] said that, ‘We can’t win with those players’. That’s outrageous. And I think he should apologize”. Houston’s worst defensive season ever continues. The Texans did survive the first two games of the season, but the season could be over for them as early as Week 6.

2. The New England Patriots started the season by getting their quarterback back from injury, and started the year by sitting QB Tom Brady for one of their games. This week, Brady decided to take care of his knee a little bit so he could start Week 3. Unfortunately, he was overworked and ultimately hurt his knee while taking a few sacks in New England’s 34-12 loss to the Detroit Lions. It was a big win for the Lions, who won their third straight. At 3-0, the Lions are the team to beat in the NFC North. It was a bad day all around for the Patriots, as their defense couldn’t do anything to contain Lions running back LeGarrette Blount and kicker Matt Prater got a 100 yard kicking game from a good field goal. This is a tough loss for the Patriots, because they’ve been dominant over the last couple of years, winning 13 of the last 14 games they played against the Lions. Now the clock is ticking for Tom Brady.

3. We’ve learned that the New Orleans Saints are going to be very, very good. Though the Philadelphia Eagles were supposed to be the team to knock off the Saints in the NFC East, the New Orleans Saints beat them on Sunday to start the year at 2-0. The Saints are much, much better than the Eagles. New Orleans’ defense was the best in the NFL last year, and they’re set to get back what they lost last year when players from their defense left. Drew Brees has been the same great quarterback he’s always been, throwing for 331 yards and three touchdowns against the Eagles. This will be the biggest test for the Eagles this season, as they face another good team in the New Orleans Saints.
